Swiss Water Processed Decaf ...

SWP is a 100% chemical-free decaffeination process. This unique process removes caffeine by soaking green beans in a particular water solution. The solution is called Green Coffee Extract (GCE). The beans are then dried, and are ready to be roasted.

The GCE is a key element in the Swiss Water Process. The soaking results in no more than 0.1% of caffeine remaining in the green coffee beans. Caffeine is then removed from the GCE through a proprietary carbon filter system. The carbon is then ‘regenerated’ to remove the caffeine so that it can be reused. All said and done, this process maintains the beans deep delcious flavors.

There are other methods to decaffeinate the green beans, however they involve using chemicals such as methylene chloride and ethyl acetate or steps that include pressurized liquid carbon dioxide. Something that we are obviously not a fan of.
